Thorsten presents the program for the working week and the two tasks. A meeting table and a reception desk for the school's secretary should be designed and built. Afterwards an informative tour through the workshop building of the school takes place.

Programs:

On Tuesday morning we continued the sketches and research for the different projects. Then in the afternoon we started the models. We were lucky because the person who had to use the table was present in the school, so we were able to discuss with her to know exactly what are her expectations. In addition, the second group was able to go down several times to talk to the person who would mostly use the reception desk. The bar group clarified further details and material issues. The table group is working on designs for a round meeting table. After lunch we will continue working shortly. In the afternoon, we ride our bicycles to the Villum Velux Window Museum, where we get a guided tour of window design and window constructions of the past 100 years.

After lunch we will cycle to Norrebro, where the administration of NEXT is located. The existing counter serves as the template for the new counter that the working group will develop. Photos and small sketches with the most important dimensions are created.

On Wednesday morning, the counter group has to change its original design. The clerk and the director have developed new requirements for the counter. The table group develops 4 possibilities for the base frame and 4 designs for the table top. The models in scale 1:5 are built. At 1 p.m. comes the social worker and we introduce the models. She chooses 2 table frames (three-legged) and two plate designs with organic shapes. In the afternoon we drive to the Danish Design Museum near the Amalienburg Palace and get a guided tour through the Bauhaus exhibition, which is technically very well done. The furniture exhibition in the museum is good as it has been redesigned.

Thursday, 23.05.2019:

On Thursday morning we learned to use the software called ‘Solidworks’ that is a 3D drawing program. Arek shows us how to use it and we practice at the same time.

Friday, 24.05.2019:

In the morning of our last working day, we finished the prototypes and each group presented the ideas they had to the others. The projects are explained and questions and suggestions are expressed and discussed.

On Monday morning all the people arrived at 9 a.m. We quickly start with a small presentation from Arek to teach us, how to put a situation of a piece of furniture in a room very quickly with the shadows and by using our smartphone.

In the afternoon we began to make the prototypes, by using the CNC machine for the tabletop and a lot of other joiner machines.

The Finnish designer designs the matching chair in parallel to the meeting table.

Some design details of the prototypes are changed and then the prototype of the table is assembled and placed in the workspace.

Likewise, the counter model is manufactured on a scale of 1:3 and the appropriate strips are cut to size, profiled and given a surface treatment.

We therefore present the table to the woman who wants to use it. Parallel to this, the participants are already carrying out the self-evaluation for the LTTA5 week. In the early afternoon this successful project week will be finished.

Acquired skills for trainers and teachers:

 

  • Developing sketches for the projects Meeting table and reception counter, making and coloring models on a scale of 1:5, changing drawings according to customer specifications.
  • Produce a prototype and develop detailed design solutions for the chair, the meeting table and the reception counter.
  • Basic competences to use the 3D program of Solid works.
